Job Summary
Technician will report directly to the Entertainment Manager and work closely with the Tap Room Manager, Events Manager, Curated Events Manager, Ore Dock staff, and hired talent to provide live sound and lighting for performances. As the live sound/lighting tech for Ore Dock Brewing Company, you will be responsible for operating a sound board and lighting interface for live performances to meet the needs of performers as well as acting as a point of contact for performers. This will include setting up equipment, conducting soundchecks, and making sure equipment is inventoried and securely put away after performance. While live sound/ lighting will be the primary focus of this internship, you will also gain experience with aspects of production, promotion, and performance. Previous experience with live sound, lighting and/or a background in performance arts is preferred but not required. Tech must be organized, have an “ear” for detail and be able to work efficiently, effectively, and enthusiastically to meet the needs of each performance. Intern must show professionalism with talent, staff, and guests at all times.
Key Responsibilities (but are not limited to):
- Create professional relationships with artists/musicians
- Maintain a general understanding of stage flow, instruments, and sound
- Ensure bands are professional when performing
- Communicate with staff as needed
- Prepare sound and lighting equipment
- Perform soundchecks and provide monitor mixes
- Monitor sound levels and quality for live performances
- Operate equipment safely and respectfully
- Diagnose faulty equipment and consult supervisor
- Maintain an inventory of all equipment
- Ensure sound quality and lighting meets talent’s expectations
Job Requirements:
- Weekend and evening work required due to the nature of events
- Strong communication skills, with emphasis on working independently and as a team
- Exceptional people skills, with professionalism and a sense of humor
- Excellent hearing and technical aptitude
- Knowledge of sound/lighting equipment and operating systems
- General understanding of and willingness to learn about the music industry
- Ability to troubleshoot and stay calm under pressure
- Punctual, reliable, and professional
